Sub-Smash is the 10th broadcast and the 17th produced episode of British television series UFO.
Plot[]
While investigating a new form of UFO that can attack underwater, a team of SHADO operatives are endangered when their craft, the SkyDiver, is attacked by the undersea UFO. Most members of the crew are evacuated, but the escape hatch jams and Straker and Lt Barry are trapped. She is badly injured and both are close to death. In what they think must me their last moments, the two become very close to each other, breaking through the barrier of reserve that had separated them through the years they have worked together in SHADO. But salvation comes, and the two are rescued.
Afterwards, as they recover, Nina can't help wondering if, in her moment of vulnerability, she said too much.

- Paul Maxwell (Lieutenant Lewis) previously voiced Colonel Steve Zodiac in Fireball XL5, Captain Ashton and a reporter in the Thunderbirds (TV) episode Alias Mr. Hackenbacker and Captain Grey and World President Younger in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.
- In a deleted scene, Straker and Nina state that they have known each other for 12 years, thereby dating the episode to 1984 since it was stated that they met in March 1972.
- It is stated that SkyDiver is stranded south of St. Helena, an island in the South Atlantic and that it takes 50 minutes for Albatross 25 to fly there, suggesting that the plane’s top speed is Mach 7.3.
